What's NewProgressThe architectural schematic designs for the new animal shelter are now available for viewing! Please come into the shelter, or visit the Town Hall to see the plans for Bristol's future, state-of-the-art, no-kill animal shelter. These plans are like none you have ever seen before; you will be awed at the new concepts that have been incorporated into the design. You will also see the site on which the new shelter will be built.
The Town of Bristol has aproved the bond to build the new animal shelter, and a building committee is presently being assembled. On March 11th, 2010 the Town of Bristol held it's first workshop for the new animal shelter. Click to view the Bristol Animal Shelter Presentation. On July 15th, 2010 the Capital Project Committee had their 3rd meeting: A brief overview: A new site for the animal shelter was discussed. There is land behind St. Gobain that is available to possibly build upon. It was discussed that the new site needs to be evaluated before making a determination of its feasibility. John Lannan (Friends representative member of the committee) and Diane Williamson (Director of community development) will be making the plans for the analysis. Harold Tucker (general public representative of the committee) commented that he and a Town Council member reviewed the current shelter design plans and that he thinks that they should be "thrown out". He says that we will be over budget with the current design and presented to the committee a new design created by an architect that he found. John L. told the committee that he had been in contact with Warren (the architect originally hired by the Friends group) and that Warren was willing to work with the Town and ensured us that the project would come under budget. John also reminded the committee that they are not yet at the point of discussing the building, that they needed to find the site first. The next meeting was scheduled and the meeting was adjourned. After the meeting Harold Tucker was seen handing off his new building design to Town Council member Halsey Herreshoff. Having past experience with the Town Council it is known that not all members are in favor of building a new animal shelter or the design presented by the Friends group. Let's remember, the people of the Town of Bristol were presented with the Friends design and made their decision to pass the bond to build the new shelter based on the information presented to them from the Friends group. It is important to stand together to ensure that the people of the Town get what they voted for. There are two meetings that we need to attend. Please mark the dates on your calendars and show your support by attending the meetings. As always, thank you for your support!
